The 10 Best Arm building Exercises for starting Bodybuilders

First, the exercises on this list are straightforward and for beginners who need to start with a solid foundation in arm-building fundamentals in order to perform long-term success from their biceps, triceps and forearm workouts. Though I've said that these exercises are simple, this does not mean that they're easy. Their simplicity lies in the intuitive benefits that come from each arm-building movement and the fact that you can do these exercises with a minimal time commitment. Getting the most from these exercises will still want faithful concentration to training technique and workout variety - the 2 keys to arm-building success that are not all the time easy for beginning bodybuilders.

In my experience, you're a beginner if you've been training your arms once or twice per week for 6 months or less. You're also a beginner if you been trying to build your arms for more than 6 months with exercises other than those in case,granted on my list. Why? Because if you haven't mastered the arm-building exercises listed in my Top 10, you're not ready for the intermediate or developed workout methods that you'll eventually need to build truly Awesome Arms.

Second, to make my Top 10 list, the tool needed for each arm-building practice must be universally available. That means that you can do all of these exercises with dumbbells, an Ez-curl bar and a basic workout bench which you can find in any gym or condition club. You can also do these exercises at home with a very small venture in this tool for your home gym. There's no need for fancy machines or trendy gimmicks here.

Finally, each of my Top 10 arm-building exercises will help you to simultaneously build mass, shape and power in your biceps, triceps and forearms. These muscle areas are directly targeted while each practice to maximize increase and efficiency from your workouts.

Now that I've told you how I came up with my list, here are the Top 10 exercises for building the big, muscular arms that you desire! They're not listed in any single order, so there's no theorize to think that one single practice is good than another. You must determine what works best for you through experimentation with each exercise. But rest assured that any arm-building schedule that includes all of these exercises will by all means; of course add inches, symmetry and power to your biceps, triceps and forearms.

1. Ez Bar Preacher Curls

The Ez bar preacher curl is one of my all time favorite biceps exercises. The preacher bench is a dreadful training tool as it forces the biceps to work in relative isolation from the back and shoulders. Unlike standing barbell curls which regularly involve biceps-cheating torso swing, preacher curls keep your arms at an angle that forces your biceps to furnish the leverage needed to lift the weight. The Ez curl bar offers both narrow-grip and wide-grip hand positions. When you use the narrow grip, your hands are in a semi-neutral position and therefore increase involvement of the brachioradialis in the curling motion. If you have no caress with preacher curls, you should probably begin with the narrow-grip position.

As you become more experienced with this practice you should move to the wider grip as it forces supination or a "palms up" positioning of your hands. Since the biceps function primarily as a hand-supinator, the more you supinate your hands the more resistance you will place on your biceps. If you've got the possible to build biceps peaks, Ez bar preacher curls will nothing else but tap that potential.

2. Dumbbell Preacher Curls

The dumbbell preacher curl is another one of my favorite biceps builders. This practice nothing else but allows you to make the mind-body connection so vital to arm-building success. While many competitive bodybuilders use this practice exclusively as a "shaper" while pre-contest training, the dumbbell preacher curl also works as a vast mass constructor when used in a pyramid cycle. In fact, this practice is the best high intensity bodybuilding movement for simultaneously adding size and shape to your biceps.

3. Dumbbell concentration Curls

As the name suggests, this practice places concentrated resistance on the biceps when performed properly. Besides building your biceps, this practice also stresses and develops the brachialis. The brachialis is a true forearm flexor. It originates on the lower prior surface of the humerus, ends on the prior surface of the coronoid process of the ulna (the large bone on the inside of the forearm) and is graphic on the surface of the upper arm between the biceps and the lateral head of the triceps. Improvement of the brachialis and biceps gives the front of your upper arms that thick, dense look that says "mess with me at your own risk!!"

4. Seated Alternating Dumbbell Curls

This practice is one of the best biceps builders ever as long as you sit on a bench that has a back rest to prevent torso movement. Too many people do this practice whether standing or sitting on a bench without back support. In order to make sure that your biceps get the most work from this movement you must stabilize your torso so as to prevent any jerking motion. Also, remember to supinate your hands throughout each repetition to stimulate maximum increase for your biceps.

5. Ez Bar Triceps Extensions

This exercise, also known as "Skull crushers" is a dreadful mass-builder for your triceps. For maximum growth, Ez bar triceps extensions want that you keep your upper arms in a position perpendicular (90 degrees) to the practice bench throughout each repetition. If this position causes you any elbow strain or discomfort, you can lower the angle by engaging your arms slightly transmit to sell out the stress on your elbows. Don't worry - production this minor adjustment won't impede your potential to get the benefits of this exercise.

You should also place your hands in the narrow-grip position on the Ez bar which, when combined with allowable arm position, ensures that each triceps head receives maximum resistance throughout the practice motion. When done correctly, you can't beat Ez bar triceps extensions for building big, muscular triceps.

6. Triceps Pushups

You're probably customary with thorough pushups which are performed with your arms in a shoulder width position. While thorough pushups involve the triceps, chest and shoulders in the "pushing" motion, triceps pushups are designed to minimize chest and shoulder involvement so as to maximize training resistance on the triceps. This practice is deceptively straightforward in that it appears to the untrained eye as just another pushup. But like every practice on my Top 10 list, technique is highly prominent and allowable hand position determines whether these pushups will add muscular inches to your triceps.

For allowable performance, take a thorough pushup position with your hands and arms extended and shoulder-width apart. Then slide your hands closer together until your thumbs nearly touch each other. This is the beginning position. With your hands in this position, gently lower your arms underneath you and then push yourself back up to the beginning position as you would with regular pushups. Make sure that you keep your back right and your head up for maximum resistance on your triceps. As you extend your arms, join mentally on maintaining allowable form and technique with each repetition. For added resistance or pyramid cycles, have a training buddy gently place a 5-10 pound barbell plate on your back to force your triceps to work harder and build greater mass.

7. Seated Triceps Dips

Seated triceps dips are another dreadful triceps builder, yet I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen anything doing them in the gym. Maybe people ignore them because, like triceps pushups, they look too straightforward to do any good. Well, the proof, as they say, is in the pudding, and seated triceps dips have nothing else but added vital power and density to my triceps.

To do this exercise, sit on a workout bench with your legs together and extended on the floor in front of you. Your arms should be fully extended and shoulder-width apart behind you. Slide your body slightly transmit to suspend yourself so that your arms are bearing your bodyweight between the bench and the floor. With your arms extended, lower yourself as though to sit on the floor and then push yourself back up by extending your arms and returning to the beginning position. This exercise, when performed properly, will add vast power, shape and definition to your triceps - guaranteed!

8. Single-Arm Triceps Extension

The single-arm triceps extension, also known as the "French dumbbell press" is a triceps-builder that I advise primarily as a shaping movement. Although it is possible to build mass with this exercise, the over-head arm position may prevent you from using enough weight to generate the type of power and mass-building possible available from Skull crushers and triceps pushups. You should experiment with this practice and use it in a manner that gives you the best results. But remember, I do not advise using heavy weight with this movement because of the risk of shoulder injury. Consistent use of light-to-moderate weight will furnish the best results from this triceps builder.

9. Reverse-Grip Ez Bar Curls

This practice puts former stress on the brachioradialis and extensor muscles of the dorsal or outer surface of your forearms. Since your hands are pronated in the narrow-grip position, your wrists are extended which forces involvement of the extensor carpi radialis and extensor carpi ulnaris. This pronated or "palms down" positioning of the hands also takes the biceps out of this exercise, which isolates the brachioradialis as the former forearm flexor. If you're serious about building big, muscular forearms, reverse-grip Ez bar curls are a good first step.

10. Wrist Curls

Wrist curls work to create the two large muscles on the inside quantum of the prior surface of the forearm. These muscles, the flexor carpi ulnaris and flexor carpi radialis, are the wrist flexors and join to form a thick, muscular region from the elbow to the lower forearm. While these muscles do vital work while your biceps curling movements, wrist curls cut off these flexors so as to maximize resistance on this section of your forearms. If you want to add thickness and power to your inner forearms, heavy wrist curls will do the job.

If the weather becomes colder or the horse is used more actively, the whole of food will need to be increased accordingly. Safety. Practically any food, given in an incorrect quantity or fashion, can follow in condition issues. A list of the common mistakes to avoid is provided below.

To understand the other two underlying requirements, it helps to first understand the normal eating patterns of horses. Horses have evolved as foragers, which means that they eat for a microscopic while in one place, then move on in search of best food (e.g. More tender or nutritious) and eat somewhere else. One often sees this behaviour when the horse is in a large pasture, where they often move from place to place. The calculate for this behaviour is that they evolved in a landscape where the quality of food was changeable (as opposed to the largely uniform grassland which we create in our pastures) so they needed to spend most of their time entertaining and eating, up to 18 hours per day. This has resulted in two dietary requirements:

Continuous Feeding. Although a horse does not eat enduringly (e.g. It spends part of its time entertaining about and other activities), it needs to eat frequently. It needs a minimum of 2-3 meals per day to keep its digestive theory healthy, but more frequent eating is preferable. Many small meals are best than a few large meals. This is one of the reasons that horses which graze on pasture while the day are ordinarily healthier than horses which have their food (e.g. Hay or grain) given to them once or twice a day. Stimulation. A horse's main stimulation and vocation comes from seeing for food and eating (typical forager activity). Restricting it to short and infrequent feedings will follow in a bored and unhappy horse, which is likely to found stress connected behaviours such as cribbing or repetitive movements.
Grass and Hay

Grass is the most natural food for horses, as it is what they have evolved to eat. In general, horses will tend to be healthier on a diet which consists mainly of grass than on any other type of food.

Hay is the second most natural food, being rather close to the dried grass which they might find after a hot and dry summer, or dried winter grass. It is less nutritious than fresh grass but good quality hay is a beneficial alternative when there is not sufficient fresh grass.

There are a large number of poisonous weeds which can be found in some pastures. Depending on the type of plant eaten and the quantity, the follow can be anything from minor to fatal. Some plants can also cause damage the skin or hooves if the horse rolls or walks on them. Consequently, before putting your horse into a pasture, a knowledgeable person should check the pasture for poisonous weeds. As some weeks are illustrated mainly in spring and others mainly in summer, a appropriate walk through the pasture at least twice a year to check for suspicious plants is advisable.

With hay, one faces the same issues with poisonous plants, if the hay is made from a pasture with poisonous weeds. In fact, the situation with hay is potentially more perilous since horses will instinctively avoid eating many of the the poisonous plants if encountered in a pasture, but when they are mixed in with hay and dried the horses are no longer able to identify and avoid them since they have lost their distinctive smell and appearance. Consequently, one should take special care that one uses hay only from a pasture which is safe or hay that is sourced from a trust worthy source.

The other major risk with grass is that grass which is overly rich in carbohydrates (e.g. Spring grass) or nitrates (e.g. Fertilised field) can cause laminitis or founder. See the preceding link for more data on how to avoid this. Excessively rich hay may have the same risk, but since hay is made at a time of year when the grass is plainly less rich, this is much less likely.

Another notice is the quality of the hay. It can consist of harmful mold or fungus if it has not been properly dried before being cut, or has gotten wet whether prior to or after bailing, or has been stored in plastic bags. Any bales which have mold or fungus should be thrown out rather than used. Hay can also be dusty, fluctuating from slightly dusty to very dusty, depending on the soil and weather conditions at the time it was made, as well as the way in which it was cut/turned/baled. Very dusty hay should not be used as it can cause respiratory problems in horses. Slightly dusty hay is fine, except for horses which are sensitive to dust. One can soak hay in water to take off the dust, but in this case one needs to clean out uneaten hay each day to stop the wet hay from going off. An advantage of industrial feeds over hay is that in normal they are unlikely to have dust, mold or fungus (unless they have been allowed to get wet as a follow of improper storage).

Hay Cubes or Bricks

Hay cubes (also known as hay bricks) is hay which has been cut and then compressed into a brick shape. This is a favorable way of storing hay as it uses up less space and can form favorable individual portions. It does tend to be more expensive to buy than baled hay and horses with dental issues may find it more difficult to chew. There have been cases of horse choke reported with hay bricks, but this is uncommon. Aside from these differences, it has much the same advantages and disadvantages as normal baled hay (see above).

Hay Pellets

Hay pellets is effectively hay which has been ground up, heat treated and converted to pellets. It tends to be more expensive than hay (partly due to the supplementary processing), but is also more favorable and uses up about a third of the space as medium-density hay bales. As the pellets are effectively hay in other form, it has much the same nutritional value, except for those brands which add minerals or vitamins.

The pellets can be eaten quicker than hay in its unprocessed format, so supply somewhat less vocation and stimulation than unprocessed hay. They also tend to break down quicker in the digestive system, so provide somewhat less value in terms of absorbing stomach acids and protecting against ulcers. 

A common question with pellets is that many horses will try to swallow them without first properly chewing them, resulting in the horses choking. If your horse does this, you should soak the pellets in water for 10 minutes or so before feeding to the horse; this causes the pellets to break down into a soupy mix which the horses cannot choke on. The advantages and disadvantages of soaking are:

Choke. Soaking the pellets prevents the horse from choking on them. Water Intake. This is a good way to increase your horse's water intake, as horses do not always drink enough. In particular, older horses sometimes do not drink sufficient (although there are some illnesses which have the opposite effect) and horses being transported often do not drink enough. Winter Warming. while the winter, horses can become chilled (especially old, sick or shaved horses). If there pellets are soaked in warm water (but not hot water!) this can help them warm up, especially as compared to drinking cold water from an exterior pail or unheated drinker. Mess. Unfortunately, many horses lift their head away from their feeding pail while eating, and in the case of soaked hay pellets this can follow in them dropping a fair bit on the floor. Furthermore, if they toss their heads while eating (e.g. If startled by a noise), it tends to follow in the hay soup being sprayed on the walls. All such mess should be cleaned up to forestall the increase of mold or fungus. Alternatively, one may wish to feed them from a pail outside.
Grain and Musli

Grain and musli, when purchased in the form of industrial horse feeds, are high-energy foods which are indubitably digested. Musli is made from a choice of crushed grains and may have minerals or vitamins added, as well as sugar, fiber and filler.

An alternative to purchasing industrial horse feeds is to buy the grains yourself, which you can feed whether individually or incorporate to make a musli. 1 pound ground beef ; browned, drained

1 can pork and beans

1 can chili beans

1 quarterly can tomato sauce

1 teaspoon cumin

1 teaspoon chili powder

Red pepper ; to taste

Mix all ingredients in crock pot. Cook on Low for 3 to 4 hours.

3 pound lean beef stew meat ; cut 3/4 " cubes

1 large onion, chopped

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 can diced green chiles - (7 oz) drained

1 teaspoon ground cumin

2 tablespoon yellow cornmeal

Combine all ingredients, except cornmeal, in a slow cooker, mixing well. Cover and cook on Low for 7 to 8 hours or until meat is tender.

20 Minutes before serving:

Turn control to High. Stir in cornmeal. Cover and cook on High 20 to 25 minutes.

No-Bean Chili

2 pounds ground beef

(or cubed lean stew beef)

1 can tomato sauce - (8 oz)

1 can tomato paste - (6 oz)

1 can stewed tomatoes - (16 oz) ; (optional)

2 tablespoon chili powder

1 teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce ; or more

Combine all ingredients in slow cooker. Cover and cook on Low for 8 to 10 hours. (Add a can of your beloved beans if you wish, but then it wouldn't be No-Bean Chilli.)

This method yields 4 to 6 servings.
